Ribérac market square [click to enlarge]The bustling market town of Ribérac is within walking distance (3km) of Bonheur Gîtes. The town has a lovely market square which throngs with life every Friday morning when the largest market in the region takes over the town centre.
Ribérac has excellent facilities, which include a post office, several supermarkets, boulangeries, patisseries, banks, pharmacies, newsagents (some selling English newspapers) and a good choice of bars and restaurants. Bridge over the River Dronne [click to enlarge]The River Dronne flows through the centre of Ribérac and canoeing is available at several locations along the river. The town has tennis courts and there are stables for horse riding nearby.

A little history...
Gallo-Roman remains found in and around Ribérac. Situated near the River Dronne, the town's name comes from the Latin "ribeira" for "river". The town's château was demolished in the 18th century. It dated back to the 10th century and was the birthplace of Arnaud Daniel in the 12th century and François d'Aydie in the 16th century. Ribérac was a sous-préfecture until 1926.

Ancient collegiate church of Notre-Dame (11th century); church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix (1935); church of Faye (12th century); church of Saint-Martial (12th-century); 19th-century municipal buildings, including the palais-de-justice, hôtel-de-ville, mairie & hôpital.
